PIP Implant Information

McIndoe Surgical Centre  would like to reassure patients that we have noted the latest guidance from the MHRA about Poly Implant Prostheses (PIP).

Patients who know that they have PIP implants and are concerned should contact their surgeon for further advice.

If patients do not know the specific details of the implants that were used in their surgery and would like confirmation they should contact the hospital on 0800 917 4922 and we will endeavour to retrieve their records to confirm the type of implant used. Please be aware that records are normally kept for a period of seven years and we may not be able to provide the information for records dating beyond seven years.

Please be assured McIndoe Surgical Centre will continue to follow the updates from MHRA and will act according to their guidance.

Beware of cosmetic surgery abroad

For many cosmetic surgery abroad is an attractive proposition especially as a new year approaches and new year’s resolutions to make this the year you look your best. The promise of travel to an exotic destination, surgery at a fraction of the cost. A pool side recovery with the chance to top up the tan. You can then return home looking rejuvenated and your friends and family think you had a really relaxing holiday.

At McIndoe Surgical Centre, home to over fifteen plastic surgeon and probably the largest private plastic surgery hospital in the UK we are no stranger to botched procedures where patients have been swayed to go abroad. If you are one of the lucky ones whose procedure goes smoothly are recovers well – well done. If you are not, you will potentially be left without any proper after care or follow up. Once home who will you see ? Or will you need to book a flight every time there is a problem? Factor those costs plus the worry or being poorly and suddenly cheap surgery abroad becomes an expensive and hellish nightmare.

We have seen a number of poorly performed breast surgery operations both breast enlargement and breast reductions, face lifts that have not been performed well and dreadful scarring. Cosmetic surgery albeit it an elective process doesn’t mean it isn’t serious. Any kind of surgery will require post operative care and a period of recovery. It’s not all sun, sand and sangria.

We would urge anyone considering surgery whether here in the UK or abroad to do their research. Be confident in their choice of surgeon, their experience and after care and where the operation will be performed. Know what to do if something goes wrong.

At McIndoe Surgical Centre we regularly host free information cosmetic surgery open evenings and anyone considering surgery are encouraged to find out more without obligation. To find out more please call 0800 917 4922 and complete the online contact form.

Whatever you decide –  be safe.

Do men really seek plastic surgery and other cosmetic rejuvenation?

There has been much written lately about the increasing number of men seeking plastic surgery. Whilst some men may attend a consultation with their wives or girlfriends, there are a number attending without any encouragement from a partner.

And why not!? …. Just like women, men are concerned how they look and feel and self image is really important to them to.

Here at McIndoe Surgical we have seen a number of male patients wishing to part company with their man boobs ‘moobs.’ Procedures such as liposuction will work in a number of cases whilst men with a more pronounced chest with excess fatty tissue may benefit from a gynaecomastia also known as breast reduction procedure.

The body contouring liposuction procedure also works well for men with love handles and chin fat. Sometimes even the fittest of gym lovers just can’t shift those stubborn areas!

For some men like women quick fixes such as BOTOX™ for the brow and crows feet, or dermal fillers for nasal folds can be enough. It’s worth taking the time to see a plastic surgeon to discuss what it is you would like to achieve. Not everyone realises that an injection of filler may not do the job you are hoping for, and actually surgery in the form of face lift, eyelid surgery, brow lift or neck lift may be the better option for you.

At McIndoe we regularly host cosmetic surgery evenings and men are most welcome and more importantly do attend. To book your space please contact 0800 917 4922 or complete our event form.

Guys don’t be shy – you are just as deserving as the girls!

Admissions awarded First Place

Congratulations to the Admissions Team for winning the ‘best decorated office’. The competition saw a whole new level of friendly rivalry as offices were decorated in the middle of the night and Christmas trees groaned under the number of newly added decorations as secretaries, nurses and office staff all vied for the top spot.

Special mentions must go to Michele for her ‘Selfridge’ styling in the Admission and Marketing Office which really set the tone for the whole competition and Holly who was literally smuggled up the fire escape with two electric reindeer in hand. Holly later had to explain to her children that the naughty Christmas angel had probably stolen the reindeer in the night. We are not sure how Holly could sleep at night having told her two young children such fibs! but we were really pleased to have the reindeer to add to our display. Thanks Holly & Michele.

Well done to the ‘Artistic Arnstein Duo’ Linda and Gloria who were Runners Up.

A special picture of Alex and the reindeer to follow!

McIndoe Surgical Centre needs your help!

We are looking for possible case studies to take part in a new documentary being made for BBC3 about tattoos.

McIndoe Surgical Centre have offered their help to the show in the form of surgeons to remove any unwanted tattoo’s following a consultation to make sure there is a realistic expectation.

The surgeons at McIndoe Surgical Centre have offered their help to the show and will be giving consultations to demonstrate the realistic expectations of tattoo removal and possibly removing unwanted tattoos.

We need you! We have the surgical talent but we need willing participants who have tattoos that just don’t fit into their lives anymore. BBC Three have a target audience of 16-24 year olds, so we’d be looking for people that reflect that age -group (or who, at the very least, are under 30).

It is important  that there is an emotional transformation. Maybe a bride-to-be whose groom isn’t happy about a tattoo of her ex, or a guy who got ‘who’s next’ tattooed on his knuckles on a drunken stag night and now can’t get work as a policeman. Most importantly though, we are looking for great characters: fun people who won’t be shy…..

So whether your a football fan who’s has  a tattoo of a player who’s now changed teams or an ex-biker looking for work as an airhostess/funeral director, or even someone less extraordinary but with interesting things to say, we’d love to hear from you!

If any of these scenarios sound like you, then please e mail us at info@mcindoesurgical.co.uk with a photo and a brief description of your tattoo along with your reasons for wanting it to be removed.  Applications should reach us no later than 9th December 2011 and will be forwarded to the TV company who will be responsible for choosing the participants.

If any of these scenarios sound like you, please, in the first instance email us at info@mcindoesurgical.co.uk with a brief description of your tattoo and a photo showing us if possible, along with your reasons for wanting it removed, 9th December 2011 and we will submit your stories to the TV company to see if they would like interview further.

If this is the opportunity you have been waiting for please get in touch today.

Movember Moustaches at the McIndoe

All credit is due to three of our surgical team who have endured a month of itchy growth to raise funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and other cancers that affect men.

Martin Jones, plastic surgeon, said: ‘Movember has been an eye opener. Shaving is actually taking longer as you have to go around the moustache but at least as a surgeon I can hide under my mask most of the day. I don’t think it’s a look I will be keeping.’

John Pereira, plastic surgeon, said: ‘Growing my moustache has been a funny experience, I call it my bit of Marmite as you either love it or hate it.  It’s actually been really annoying me as the weeks have gone on but well worth it for the cause.’

Steve Fenlon, anaesthetist, said: ‘In the last few days it has finally stopped itching, however I have constant reminders from people laughing at me!’

Well done chaps, we can’t wait for next year!
